A wide variety of stories
This is an interesting collection of stories from a variety of authors. In reading this anthology I have been entertained, made to think, and have experienced a wide expanse of stories.Well worth the read.Note: I am the author of one of the stories in the book. The other authors I have not read any of their work previously.

Another excellent anthology from a known group of serious writers
This is the third anthology from Gibson and Runyon that I have read and possibly the best yet. The stories run the gamut from space opera to weird tales to psychological thrillers but all well done and entertaining.

Just keeps getting better every year
Some new voices and some old ones. It’s a good mix of ideas and styles.

Poor stories
Crap stories. One of them is the first chapter of someone’s book. What good is that to me?

The bar was set very low for this book, I was just looking for some lightweight, entertaining holiday reading. Unfortunately it fell well short.Far too many of these “stories” read as a one-two chapter author’s pitch to an agent or publisher, petering out inconclusively without any obvious point (I’m aware of Chekov’s views on what a “story” should be but imho it’s not a perspective most, if any, writers should adopt). Sadly, most of the writing is also a bit weak, and often wearyingly lacking in originality.I’d give it one star, but for a couple of stories by Michael A Clement (both on the theme of one of the rarely discussed pitfalls of AI), one on the same theme by JJ Toner (that one sadly appears to be a pitch, I was enjoying it right up to the last line), and one good and one OK-ish story by M C Neuffer. But that’s not a very encouraging ratio of nuggets to dross so I would NOT recommend this book and I won’t be looking at any others in this series.
