Baby shower gift? One of my favorite childhood books!
When invited to a baby shower, bring gifts and relive your childhood at the same time by including books.I remember loving this book as a child! So of course I needed to read it again as soon as it arrived. The colors and drawings are fairly basic – the book was written in the ’60’s and it shows in the illustrations. Some parts are bright solid colors while others look like colored pencil over textures to achieve a pebbled look. The lead character – never given a name or animal type – is on a mission to find a useful job for his talents, which he feels is at the zoo. When the zoo disagrees and kicks him out, he shows off his skills to his two friends, a boy and a girl who help guide him to a better place. (This isn’t a euphemism for him dying, I mean a more fitting career choice.)This book is fun for kids because it shows colors, counting, in, out, sizes, socks (I love the socks, no clue why) and being able to communicate with friends. It shows that it’s ok to change what you want to do or be when you grow up, and perhaps what you think you want isn’t what’s right for you.

    Nostalgic read
I loved Dr. Seuss growing up and now I get to read it to my little one. It is a sturdy book.

    Love this book
This was one of my faves when I was a little girl and have enjoyed reading it to my son. Love that is in the board book style because he likes to rip books up.

    As good as I remember
This was a childhood favorite book. I got it for my nieces to read. What’s easy for them to read? And they loved it so much they read it multiple times.

    MISSING 60 YEAR ANNIVERSARY image
Love this book and all the wonderful rhyming in it. It is excellent for kids. BUT ….. we expected the 60 year anniversary image on it like shown on the Amazon website. This would be found on the right side under the “cat in the hat” image. This is a gift and we are very disappointed that the 60 year anniversary image is not on the book. (See attached photo). 60 years of “Put me in the Zoo,” is a huge celebration and should not be ignored if you are buying a brand new book.Again this book itself is wonderful!! My husband loves it and can recite pretty much the whole thing and our kids are grown up.

Toddlers, with their limited vocabularies, will delight in this fun story! I took off two stars because:1) For a story about a colour-changing leopard, the ones used appear drab and dated. I understand that the book was published in an era that did not enjoy the huge range of inks that are available today, but I do feel that the shades used could have been brighter. The blue (cyan, really) is hard to distinguish from green. The violet spots might as well be black. Orange is very obviously a combination of red and yellow.2) The story has been cut short in the board book version! Sacrilege! This one was a big disappointment.Overall, while the book was enjoyable, my baby is not going to understand the concept of colours from it.
