I’m gonna out myself here and say I’m a HUGE Kate Meader fan, but I know sod all about ice hockey, so I was wondering how that combo would work when I dived into the Chicago Rebel Series…. Needless to say I needn’t have worried, In Skates Trouble, the opening novella was fabulous and she hit her trademark combo of sharp snappy dialogue, hot love scenes and smart sassy characters out of the park with the first full length book in the series, featuring jinxed Cajun hunk o hot hockey player Remy DuPre and ever so slightly uptight new owner Harper Chase. Remy is an absolute dreamboat, and it’s not long before he’s loosening up Harper’s strict rule about fraternising with her team with the help of some comfort food, his mad skills in bed (or rather in the locker room!), his skills as a shoe shopper, a surprise meet up in his home town of New Orleans and some very sexy French endearments (every time he purred the word ‘minou’… OMG!). In fact I loved this book so much I might even start watching ice hockey! Not bad for a girl from Notting Hill… Have already pre-ordered the next book in the series So Over You. Bring it on!!

Hot, hot, Cajun hot is hockey player Remy DuPre. Smart, intelligent, beautiful but also tormented is Harper Chase the new team owner. Harper along with her 2 estranged half sisters are now the owners of the 2nd worst team in the NHL. To keep the team they have get the team to the playoffs & follow the rules set out in their late father’s will. Remy’s last yr in the league is the yr he’s finally going to win the cup, but now he’s been traded to the 2nd worst team in the league with a grim outlook on winning the cup. Harper Chase needs all the help she can get but stubborn Remy is determined to win & forces a deal with her. Once he sees the Harper that’s hiding under the businesswoman he realizes that there are other things important as well & sets out to prove it to just as stubborn Harper. Their interactions although hot & steamy were also sweet & cute & heated. The comedy relief of the story has to be the ever funny humongous dog of team captain Bren St. James who had a severe problem with flatulence. The tenuous bond between the sisters & the romance between Remy & Harper was definitely well written & pulled at the heartstrings as all were developing. I enjoyed this story by Kate Meader & look forward to reading more in this series. Definitely recommend.

First of all, Remy DuPre? He gave me full on Remy Lebeau vibes you don’t even know. All I could think was X men and I felt bad about that as it did take me out of the story at first. Come on, he’s name is Remy and he’s a Cajun from New Orleans, who could blame me? About 20% in I was pretty solidly invested, though.I wasn’t Harper’s biggest fan when I began reading. It wasn’t that she was a driven woman who was focused on a single path, it was the fact she was focused and had blinders on. She was so closed off she was unwilling to rely on anyone else. Meader did an excellent job of explaining the independent streak Meader had going and Harper did grow on me but I still wanted her to reach her final realisations for sooner. It was a good kind of frustration, at least. And I had huge respect for what she did when she had been continually beaten down by a father who did not respect her brilliance and accept his own flaws. As for Remy, everyone loves a passionate man, especially when he is a sexy hockey player who respects women and isn’t afraid to talk about his feelings. And he’s a musician as well? Don’t mind me, I’m just swooning here. The chemistry between Harper and Remy? Well, hot damn this book is on fire in that department. I loved them together, they were so good together and you could see sparks before they even had a proper conversation. I loved seeing them getting together and they were brilliant.I also loved the family feels with the sisters together. I have high hopes for more family time with Harper, Violet and Isobel. Those girls will be hilarious together, I can see it now. Also, the DuPre family feels were good, too. Got to love a big family and Remy was so adorable with his nieces.
