A feel good read intertwined with some thought-inducing philosophy.
“Hmm, I don’t remember buying this book, I guess I should read it….” My experience with The Midnight Library was fittingly a journey in it’s own right. It took me an embarrassing 14 days to complete, though to be fair I did read five other books in completion during that time. At first I didn’t love it, it felt a bit trite, a la It’s a Wonderful Life, but I did enjoy the philosophical jaunts. Some of the writing is absolutely delightful, highlight worthy even, but there were a few passages that had me scratching my head, and one that was so bad I literally had to stop, reach out to my dear best friend since preschool, and read it to her, juxtaposed to two brilliant passages that occured within the same two and a half pages, just to make sure it was really as bad as I thought it was, she concurred. Nevertheless, I found the overall story to be a pleasant read. Thought provoking at points, as previously mentioned, some great passages that I went back to savor a few times, it deals with real life issues in a sensitive and well thought out way. I would definitely recommend giving it a read, it is well worth the time.

What would you do if you could change your decisions in the past?
I did not dislike anything. This is a brilliantly written book, filled with wisdom, humor and the fantasy of making a change to your regrets from the past. It is a thoughtful book that looks at opportunities not taken, yet given a new chance for exploration. Highly engaging and worth your time to buy and read.

REVIEW POST – Book 48 of 2024Midnight Library by Matt HaigIt’s not very often a book leaves me struggling for the riggt words to review it. But I honestly feel like nothing I say will actually explain this book.I cannot believe this sat unread on my shelf for so long. People told me I would love it and they weren’t wrong. Honestly, I recommend this to anyone!Matt offers a poignant view on life and death and what may, or may not, lie between. Posing questions we’ve all asked ourselves and ones we still don’t have the answers to, this book took me on a journey through my own thoughts and feelings.Ultimately, for me at least, it provides the sense that we can make any number of choices and decisions in life, and maybe we’re simply destined for one life anyway. That life that fits. We can try to be something else or someone else or somewhere else. But we belong where we belong. And our soul probably knows that.Exploring regrets, anxiety, depression and suicide, this book won’t be for everyone. But it’s so beautifully written and so wonderfully explored that I can’t see anything more than the highest rating from me.

Regt zumNachdenken an, ist deshalb keine leichte Kost. Aber gerade deshalb liebte ich die Geschichte. Wenn man denkt jetzt kann doch nichts Neues kommen, wird man immer wieder überrascht.
