    Slightly less messy
Idk about your toddler, but mine LOVES to paint. So I wanted to look for washable and less messy ways for him to explore this activity while combining that interest with something educational as well.I found this “travel” watercolor book and here’s why I chose it:What I love:The paint palette is on every page. All you need is water. This is a great way to “control” the mess but also not destroy all the paint by mixing colors or spilling, or using it all at once for just one picture. Etc.This coloring book also came with two paint brushes, plus a water brush (brush with compartment to hold water and take on the go) The water brush is my FAVE. because now I don’t have to worry about my toddler spilling the water cup. You just have to work on not squeezing the brush, and thus all the water out onto the page. It’s easy to fill, easy to empty. The paint brushes come with a little travel box, like a thin pencil case that snaps closed. The back of the book has extra paint palettes. Each page is perforated in two sections: one to rip away from the book and the second is to separate the palette from the picture if you wish. I did not and found it easier for my toddler to use while still attached to the coloring page. Then once he’s finished, you can rip away the color palette. The letters have arrows to teach which way to trace them and each letter corresponds to the word and picture for example. I plan to use these pages for “letter of the week” lessons at homeThe colors are pigmented and can be mixed. There is plenty of each paint color to finish the entire coloring page. What I didn’t love:Not much I didn’t like about this activity. But there is one, it’s more of a personal preference. The letter ‘X’ example is Xerus. I would have preferred to see x-ray fish or something like that. The pages are thick, but not exactly watercolor paper grade. If you use too much water, the paper does start two warp. I used a metal cookie sheet under to keep the mess from leaking through to my son’s table underneath, but just be aware, the paper will eventually bleed through.Too much water on the paint palette will cause leaking and drips down onto the picture, if you are hanging this on an easel. We used this activity flat on a table.Overall this is a fun activity while still educational, as it teaches the full alphabet and how to trace each letter. Capital and lowercase. This is a good activity for on the go, with the travel water color brush and case. This would also make a good gift for little ones who love to paint or color.

Attractive pictures, large paint strip, brushes in plastic storage box
I use a lot of watercolor painting books in my arts and crafts classes for 4- to-10-year-old kids. I really like this book and brush set because:The pages are larger than average, giving you a 7″ x 11″ finished artwork. The pictures are all cute, interesting, and appealing to both boys and girls. There is a generous amount of paint on each paint strip. The name of the animal is on the page for the kids to learn.A practical brush storage box is included. There are three brushes: a water brush pen, a pointed brush, and a 1/4″ flat end brush. The paper is thick and the book covers are sturdy. The pages are easily removable from the book, except for the first and last which need to be cut. This is a good set and I recommend it.The paint strip is attached to the top of each page. Fold up on the faint perforated line, and then fold down, and the strip will be easy to remove. This can be done before or after the kids paint.Since I use this in a class, I remove all of the pages and cut off all of the paint strips ahead of time. I let the kids choose one picture at a time; they can have another when they have finished the first one. I give them 2 tablespoons of water in a small heavy bowl and a paper towel. I keep a kitchen towel handy in case of spill, but I have never had a spill. Swirl the wet brush on the paint a few times until the paint dissolves and is picked up on the brush. We have a supply of inexpensive 1/4″ flat end brushes, purchased separately, which pick up more paint and fill larger areas more quickly. Show the kids how to use shading from light to dark and color blending, if you think they are old enough to do it. Kids who are not interested in coloring with crayons or marker get into this painting and finish their pictures.

    Great Watercolor Book!
Priced at $9.99 and currently on sale for 4.99, this Watercolor Alphabet Book is a steal! Each watercolor page is made from high-quality cardstock and has perforated lines, making page removal from the book very easy. And each page has seven watercolor tiles at the top of the page, making paint projects very easy to set up. Also included are two brushes, so all you need are small bowls of water for dipping brushes into. The watercolor book that I ordered was an animal-themed alphabet book. Each page contained a letter of the alphabet and an animal beginning with that letter. For example, the “R” page had a playful drawing of a scene with a rabbit. My four-year-old grandson enjoys painting with watercolors, so this gift was a hit for him. I also think that children through the ages of seven or eight would very much enjoy this watercolor book. Preschoolers paint very quickly, but I suspect that this would be more suitable for slightly older children.I wouldn’t hesitate to reorder this watercolor book again. It will take a long time for children to paint all the pages in the book, it is of high quality, and it contains many creative pages that can easily be removed to display. Hands down, a great gift idea!
