    unexpectedly wonderful!
This is one of this books I picked up thinking it would fill some of my time until I found a book I really wanted to read. Then to my complete shock it turned out to be excellent! So many surprises, excellent details and world building, a hidden gem! The synopsis does not do it justice at all! Forget about the synopsis and just read the book. It will keep you up all night because you need to know what happens!

    Misleading sub title in Kindle
Overall the story is good until it gets to the end. The characters work, the plot works, and then the ending hits like a deadline was looming. It reads like the author word vomited and the editor didn’t proofread. “Lighte” appeared to be somewhat well explained until the for arrived and were so powerful. The shapeshifting, the misreading etc made them like gods. It was at this point that suspension of disbelief was no longer possible and the story died for me. On my Kindle this was listed as book 1 of 1 and so I thought I’d finally gotten my hands on a stand alone book instead of a never ending series. Surprise. By the time the rest of this comes out (book 2 in 2024) I will have forgotten all about It. It’s not even 400 pages long, the ending sucks and it’s $10 on Kindle. Waste of time and money.

    Wow, Wow, WOW
4.5 stars and worth the type! While this felt similar to a lot of books, Dawn of Onyx delivers exactly what you want in a fantasy book. I can’t wait for book 2 🙂 I am excited to see the character growth all around, learning more about Arwin’s lineage and Fae powers.I missed the dual POV but I understand that having some mystery behind Kane’s true intentions will lead for a very good book 2. I hope Arwin forgives Kane, yes killing his dad saves the world but also kills her. Then he met her and is willing to sacrifice the fate of the world for her. I think he is going to help her grow and become more than just the last full blooded Fae. I think she is going to be the ultimate Phoenix (“bird”). Please Kate, just give us the HEA that these characters deserve.Kane’s draw to her from the start, are they mates? It was almost as though he could sense her emotions and where she was. Was he reading her mind? So many questions and I can’t wait for the answers!Things I need from Book 2: 1)dual POV and 2) SPICE, there is way too much tension for the glimpse of spice in book 1. Give it to us Kate! LOL”In truth bird, your cell is the last place I should be, but I can’t seem to keep away from you””It’s only fair. I’ve stared at you. Most of the time I can’t seem to look at anything else””You’re beautiful””You’re one to talk””I thought I’d lost you. I couldn’t eat. Sleep. Move. Shave…I did not want to live in a world without you in it.””Do you hear me? I was willing to sacrifice the entire work to keep you alive!”‘As my lips brushed his, he released a guttural sigh into my mouth, as if he had been holding his breath for days. Years, maybe. Waiting for this very moment.’

    Loved it!!
This book! These characters!! I fell in love with them so fast! The plot was good and entertaining with the plot twists. The characters were reasonably well-developed. I devoured the book. The world building was explained very well.I read the second in the series as well and have preordered the third! I definitely recommend!
