Even if you’ve read lots of baseball story collections, this one is different
I highly recommend this “inside baseball” book. I have read maybe 50 different baseball books in my life and this ranks near the top. It tells personal stories and the writer clearly knows all the subtleties of the game. Even if you know some of the stories, here they are presented in a different light. Also, the prose is first-class. It’s elegant without being overbearing.

Very interesting read. The you tube videos at the end of some of the chapters showing what transpired was icing on the cake.Having seen some of the players in action brought back memories.

It is a gift so it hasn’t been read yet, but the service was quick and the book was in great shape.

At the back of the book the author asks that “if the book has fulfilled its promise, please put up a review …”It doesn’t ask to put up a review if it hasn’t fulfilled its promise , but I will.For me this book falls well short and left me bewildered at what dictionary they have used for the meaning of the word ‘exceptional’ used in the title.As a whole, the stories were mildly interesting, and most can be found in other books. The ones on Martin and Berra were enjoyable even though I had read them previously. Two genuine ‘exceptional’ characters that always make good reading.I was disappointed in the overall quality of the writing and the content.
