    Enjoyable series
You’ll feel as if you’re watching a movie. Many laughs and endearing moments, as well as faith-based encouragement. I’m on book 8, they’re easy to read and just enjoyable.

A New Song by Jan Karon
There is something stimulating about a change of scenery, and moving from the hills of North Carolina to an island off the east coast is definitely stimulating for Father Tim. On top of that is a shocking theft, danger, mystery, and lives touched by the power of the Holy Spirit. I have enjoyed learning a little more about Episcopalians along the way, also. I am looking forward to continuing the series, and I highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys a clean, yet interesting, story.

Another great chapter in the Mitford Series!
I love all of Jan Karon’s Mitford series. I’ll be sad if she doesn’t keep writing about these charming characters and their quaint lives. I especially love Father Tim and Cynthia and their Christian love. The Bible verses and the quoting of the liturgies are so familiar to me and it’s refreshing to read these pages with no sex or profanity, yet they are filled with true love. The guys at the Grill are so funny and sound like some folks I know! The only thing about this edition was that it was sent to my i pad; I’m sure it went to my kindle as well, but I hardly read from it anymore as I like the i pad better. I don’t know what happened, but all throughout the book the numeral “1” appeared everywhere at the end of words in place of the letter that should have been there. Annoying after a while but I still loved the story. I don’t know if it went out that way to other readers or not but it was strange!Great series, though-

    Wonderful
It’s been years since reading this series, and this book, in particular, which I had not read, was truly a gift.

    Reading is a gift.
If you are looking for books that are full of contentment and void of any kind of violence, this series is it. Wonderful. Well written, yet easy and just nice.

One of my favorite Mitford novels!
I decided to re-re-read the Mitford series in March of this year. As I read the fifth book, A New Song, I remembered why this is one of my very favorite in the entire series. Father Tim has retired, but he has been asked to act as an interim pastor for the small seaside church in Whitecap. Even though readers are introduced to a new set of characters, fans of Mitford will not be disappointed as Karon keeps them updated on what is going on there as well. (I especially love to see how Dooley has gone from an angry pre-teen to a young man who is experiencing both new love and serious life lessons.) While in Whitecap, Father Tim and Cynthia meet members of a community who quicky become like family. However, like in any family, there are conflicts. The choir director has recently run off with a member of the choir, leaving his wife facing terrible depression. This leads Tim and Cynthia to take in the couple’s three year old son. Then there is the reclusive neighbor who seems to crave isolation while at the same time sharing his incredible talents with the Kavanaghs. While these plot lines tear at the heart, I found myself smiling when reading about the lonely bachelor who seek love though personal ads (and the friends who help him.) The climax comes in the form of a severe storm which tears the community apart (while bringing them together.) Every time I finish this novel, I start to miss the characters and actually find myself wondering how they are doing as I start a new one.

I’ve read and reread the Mitford books! The stories are full of interesting scenes and interesting characters, but Father Tim is the most interesting of all. He’s a kind, gentle soul who obeys the Good Book by loving all his neighbours and his parishioners.

There are 8 books in this series, all beautifully written, all lovely stories. Once I picked up the book I could not put it down. Each book has 300 – 400 pages. Once you are introduced to the characters you feel they are friends and I wanted to know more.
