This is America’s Greatest Contribution to Mankind Ever
It took me four months to read this book, and not because it was not interesting, but since retirement, I have the luxury of time to gently, and carefully read something as special as this.I am certain that I cannot do a review of the book that would be worthy of anyone reading it, but for me this book shows that unlike the European leaders, replete with multi volume writings of adoration by such special people that we as average Americans could not possibly understand, we have Lincoln. He struggled fearfully in his early years and while his set backs were more numerous than you can imagine, he emerged as likely the greatest man this world has ever produced.Read what Tolstoy says about him at the very end, and think about what he accomplished with hardly any help other than his own determination in spite of his poverty, his sorrows, losses, and yet he could walkwith the elites but never forget his grounded sense of being and what his purpose in life was.It makes me proud to be an American. If I ever had doubts about who our greatest leaders were, those doubts have vanished forever. Lincoln was the greatest of them all.

Important book
No words would say enough about the editor, Jonathan White, and the abridged version of this great volume. Even if you have the original two volumes with over two thousand pages, you will gain from purchasing this condensed version of a classic. Well-researched and meticulously detailed account of Abraham, Lincoln. This title is innovative in its approach and comprehensive in its coverage. The work that Professor White accomplished should be applauded. Students, buffs, and scholars buy it, you will gain much and love a fabulous version. Abraham Lincoln: A Life succeeds in spinning a tail (no pun intended) that combines many general and personal accounts of the sixteenth U.S. President. Originally published by John Hopkins University Press as a two-volume study in 2008. Many consider the original title one of the best biographies on Abraham Lincoln. This condensed version does not disappoint What an enormous achievement on the part of Michael Burlingame, who many consider the number one biographer of Lincoln and Dr. White, an esteemed historian and writer, with the original and the new version of this outstanding narrative. This revised and updated treatment will enable students and buffs to gain a greater understanding of Abraham Lincoln’s life. This title considers all parts of the 16th US Presidents life. The narrative flows , well written, and should be purchased by students of Abraham Lincoln. On a personal note, it is such a great read that I had a hard time putting it down. This is an excellent book and an important addition to the increasingly crowded Abraham Lincoln bookshelf. This is a very important book. Buy it, you will thoroughly enjoy it.
