This book is wonderful.
So, after falling in love with this book, I went down to the 1-star reviews trying to work out how people could not like it and it turns out most of them apparently did not understand the ending at all. (Spoiler: No he DOES NOT DIE. That’s NOT what happened. You have to read all the words.)That said, I could see *some* bases to a few of their points:GROWS:- The lettering *is* in fact on the small side. It works well with the aesthetic, but could be harder to read for those with poor vision.- This book is not for most toddlers… but then it clearly isn’t intended for them.- The ending might be a little hard to follow at first glance if you don’t, you know, READ ALL THE WORDS.GLOWS:- Wonderful message, with a really good build toward the payoff. Seriously, I still chocke up reading it aloud.- Excellent characterization of Humpty (the only real character in the book).- The artwork is wonderful. People complain tht it’s “drab.” Well… PARTS are. They’re supposed to be. Others are not. That’s for reasons; the colors establish the mood of the story at that part. (If you don’t like it, I guess you hated The Wizard of Oz for being in black and white for the first 20 minutes.)- Read this damn book. Unless you hated The Wizard of Oz for being in black and white for the first 20 minutes.

I bought two copies of this book for holiday gifts and they are wonderful, I read a variety of kids books ahead of time to find some that I was happy giving to neivea and nephews and I thought this one was particularly good. Received in excellent condition.

This is such a lovely book on mental/emotional resilience. Getting back up after a bad incident is hard, and the book explains so well how its a slow process for Humpty to feel brave enough to get back up the wall again. I was worried when I read a review that the ending was traumatic or death related but it is absolutely not! Whoever thought that clearly hadn’t got the point all. Its about transforming into what you were always meant to be and reaching your potential, even my 4 year old daughter understood that- there are subtle clues in the pictures too which I’m surprised some adults didn’t understand in other reviews. I’ve been a primary teacher for many years and have a degree in Literature so I hope this review reassures anyone who read some of the negative ones. Its a really poignant well written and illustrated book and absolutely suitable for children of any age.

I’m a children’s book author and coach, and am around a LOT of children’s books. I also HAVE children so have lots of books around. This book came recommended to me… and while my kids are now all reading chapter books, I just had to buy this for ME. The message is SO, so important. I love the play on a childhood classic… and the tie in to the power of overcoming our past injuries, wounds, hurts, and fears. WORTH IT for every child AND adult. Would be so good to have in schools, counseling offices, and homes.

For a picture book, it is expensive and in poor condition. A part of the spine has a cut. The back cover has a crease.I am not asking fore replacement or refund in consideration of my carbon footprint. The only good point is that I can’t get this locally and the delivery was fast.
