Recommend for most parents of growing children
With the after-effects of the pandemic, it seems like many young people are struggling these days. Parents are struggling with how to best help them get on with thier lives. Dr. McConville shares insights into why some kids don’t transition into their adulthood easily, and he offers parents some tools to help the kids find thier own way and learn to be responsible for themselves. The book can be helpful for parents of kids already struggling in thier transitioning, and be a good resource to help parents of younger children develop independence and resiliency so their children ease into adulthood.Dr. McConville writes in a readable, relate-able style.

    Good Book
Great book to help those adults who are trying to figure out their life. It has helped me to find mentors for my kids.

    10 stars out of 5. It’s a must read.
I wished I had read this book when my children were born! It would have saved me and my children a lot of heartache. It’s full of great practical advice. It has helped me understand the mistakes I have made and also the unresolved issues with my parents. I highly recommend this book to expecting partners (to avoid future issues) to understand our changing and developing roles as our children grow. This book was a page turner; it gave more practical advice and results than several years of therapy. This should be required reading for everyone that is planning on having children, everyone that has children of any age, and even those without children to better understand the relationship with their parents.

Smart, on point, and easy to read.
I am a therapist and purchased this book because I am working with a family who is struggling with the challenges this book describes. It was incredibly insightful and helpful in guiding my work with this family. The parents read it too and we all found every word to be spot on. What I did not expect was just how helpful this book would be in working with many of my other clients that are not necessarily failure to launch. Reading this book made me realize just how many young adults today face the challenges described here. Even if they have not completely “failed” to launch,” many clients that wind up on the therapy couch struggle with taking ownership, managing relationships, and understanding their purpose in life. This book is useful for a) parents who have a struggling transition and b) any mental health professional who works with teenagers and young adults (all the way to 30+.) Cannot recommend enough.

    Great Read!
This is a great book with very practical advice. It was helpful in understanding my new role as a parent of an adult child. Easy to read! Highly recommended. There is even a small chapter at the end of the book for you to have your adult child read.

Of course, it hadn’t been written years ago, but you know what I mean.My son is one of those who have failed to launch, and this book gives a real insight into what might be behind it and what you might be able to do to help them get their lives back on track.I have been recommending it to anyone who asks, and many who don’t. I wish I’d read it before it all became a huge issue for us and know that if I had I might have been able to change some of the ‘unhelpful’ parenting traits and traps that we’d unwittingly fallen into. You don’t have to wait till your adult child has failed to launch, I’d recommend reading it while they’re still children and use it to avoid the whole ‘failing to launch’ thing happening at all.

Easy to read and very helpful. Mark offers relatable examples and solutions. This book is a must read for any parent. It should be read before kids are ready to launch and kept around as a reference guide. This book is helpful too for managing people who can’t seem to get to the next steps.
