Superb Read Aloud
This is a touching story of a young boy with a helpful kind spirit who is discouraged by teasing at school and leans on his father who is present and supportive. Excellent launch for believing in yourself and staying true to yourself despite others who try to bring you down. Also I am a pre-k teacher of ten years and its rare that I can pick up a new (non classic title) and not stumble on at least one phrase–however this title read beautifully with ease. Also the book is a perfect length–not to long not to short–without sacrificing depth of content/plot or character development. Highly recommend! Looking forward to more titles from this author!

Perfect for early elementary
I got each one of my students this book as an end of year gift and it meant so much to them. We were a majority black district so it was important to show them books that represented them. They connected with Ayan and his Dad and saw themselves in Ayan.
