    Not Enough
*****Spoilers*****This one is fast paced and intriguing. It takes place over about a week or so from start to finish but there’s a lot here. Kyra is 14 when the book opens, about to be 15 and is the only daughter of her father, the overlord of Volis which is a stronghold in Escalon. The kingdom was surrendered recently to an invader, the Escalon king gave up without a fight but the people of Volis and Kyra’s father would’ve preferred to fight. When we meet Kyra, it’s with her practicing her shooting an arrow through targets but she leaves that activity to follow her three brothers on a hunt. The older two coerced her youngest and favorite brother into hunting even though he wasn’t ready, and Kyra has a bag feeling so follows them. Good thing she did because she saved the youngest brother’s life but killing a wild beast as it bore down on him, her older brothers having already thrown their spears at it and missed. When they return to their castle, Kyra is given the credit she deserves for killing the beast despite her older brothers claiming they’d killed it. We get to see the dynamic between Kyra, brothers, and father and the reaction of the male only army to Kyra’s presence among them which is mostly positive. Unfortunately one soldier hates her but she mostly ignores him which doesn’t stop her from besting him in a one on one competition. A decree from the invader king sets into motion events that see Kyra saving and bonding to a dragon, killing the invader kings men, and being turned over. She escapes on her own but there’s clearly more in coming books in the series, there just have to be. We also get side stories. One of a mercenary who’s trying to reform and find a society of men to join, the ones that guard the flame. The flame is a burning barrier that keeps the trolls from coming into Volis en masse. There’s also that of a boy forced to join the invader king’s workforce which job is to battle any trolls that make it into Volis. The trolls are on fire but the men children aren’t given am appropriate amount of weapons to fight off the might of the trolls. The book ends and there’s clearly more to the story.Jumping around to the other unrelated characters was a negative thing in my opinion. We have no context as to why they might be important. The book could also use some stretching to get to everything. It’s fast moving but still could’ve taken more time to explain and get to know the characters a bit more. Why bring in the dragon only to have it help one time only and without explaining the dragon’s history? I thought that part was a disappointment.

I really enjoyed reading this book!
I have fallen in love with this book. It is very well written and I just love reading about the different characters and all of the other details. I just barely got done reading the last chapter and it had gotten me all excited. I am not sure if I can wait till I get paid to buy the next book.

    Good–ish
Honestly, I would give this a 2 1/2 star rating. I enjoyed it and I struggled with it. A lot. To be fair, I can be a bit of a literature snob so I’ll list some of the reasons why I disliked this book below. First, however, I will say what kept me reading this book until the end.The good news is that the plot is interesting, even if cliche. Having an awesome warrior-girl who seems to have an equally awesome destiny is pretty exciting to read about. The fight scenes aren’t bad, and I enjoy the author showing various perspectives. This book is, overall, simplistic in its style and presentation and while that makes it an easy read, I personally found it lacking. So, moving on to why I didn’t like this book.I cannot relate to any of the characters in this book except maybe the parent (and that is really a depressing thought as I am not a parent and really wanted to like Kyra). Aiden makes the most sense, as characters go, but again, fairly two-dimensional. The final character that seems to take a leading role is Merk who, while the author may try to make mysterious and intriguing, failed to impress me. The attempt to make this character into any kind of anti-hero was poorly done and lacked the nuance I craved to see in a well-done character development story. Now, to be fair, the writing wasn’t horrible and everything happened consistently (although there were several “miracle moments” as I call them where the main characters was very suddenly saved by some random event or act of fortune). My main bone with this book is that everyone in it seemed to have 1) a limited vocabulary 2) a even more limited perspective on life and 3) emotional impairment. That last point sounds a harsh, but seriously several times Kyra felt “proud” of her dad and it made me wonder, “does she have any deep feelings at all about her dad?” She could be angry, “betrayed” (which isn’t an emotion, it’s a condition), sad, disappointing, honored, and full of pride…..but what else can she feel? Does she love her dad? What kind of love? Why is pride the first emotion to the fatherly figure that raised you from childhood? I guess I just feel that, considering the background the author writes, all the drama doesn’t match the depth of the characters–a lot is going on, but no one really seems to be acting like normal human beings in response. And if there is one thing all good stories should have it is a trace of humanity so that the fantasy can be made all the more real. So, that is my two cents. I may just be ranting because I had hopes the author would improve as the story went on. I may just be a biased crab that needs to get over myself. You can judge as you will, but if you are looking for a fantasy book with a little more meat to sink your teeth in–look elsewhere. This is a light read and not an overly enjoyable one at that.

    The Perfect fantasy
I just finished reading Rise of Dragons by Morgan Rice. It is Book 1 of the fantasy series Kings and Sorcerers. It is a fast story meaning it is constantly action packed. No boring moments. The authors writing style and how he tells the story does not leave you with any moment of boredom. There are certain main characters whose story he tells separately each of them very interesting. You will love his characters whether they be villains or the good guys. You will want to continue reading because at the back of your mind you want to find out how and when the main characters will meet up. You will want to find out who Kyra really is and what powers she has. Morgan Rice keeps you wanting more and in order to hear more of the story you will have to complete the series. Loved this book, looking forward to book 2 and fantasy lovers this book is a must read. Who don’t do fantasy I encourage you to give it a try.

Exciting, creative and extremely well written, this first book in the series will set the hook and reel you in!!! Imaginative, the storyline carries the reader to a world of wonder, magic, and intense characters! Enjoy this book, and the ones to follow! Well worth the read!!!

I really enjoyed this story. I love the good dragons and the characters seem real if a bit stereotyped but that’s the fun. The baddies are bad though the cruelty is a bit overwhelming. They are punished eventually. Very satisfying in that you want to keep reading.

i hadn’t dared pick up a YA fantasy novel in a long time, and after this book, i now know why. i love fantasy and i love dragons, but i also love literature, actual literature, and i cannot enjoy badly written books. not that this is a terribly badly written book, just badly written, period. and i hate books that, as part of trilogies or series, simply do not develop a story at all, leaving every single thread hanging so that you are forced to purchase the next installment in order to read about anything happening at all.i guess i will never find out who or what the main character is, and how she will relate with the boy who escaped the absurdly managed “Flames”, where the ruling people literally kill every single worker that they have (hello!! Morgan Rice, do you realize how absolutely untenable that would be? If every given number of years the rulers go out and take every adult male, and then proceed to kill them ALL, the ruled kingdome would become depopulated in two freaking cycles of rule!!!), or with the assassin who is wandering around trying to become a monk. but given how little the author cared to craft the story, it is not surprising that i couldn’t care less for the fate of any character in this book. except for the main character’s younger brother.

This was in my experience the best of the series as we got to know the new characters and try to connect.

A great Story!I wasn’t expecting much of a free ebook, but i was very surprised when I started to read : you have everything you need in a great story, mysterious characters, battles, magic, dragons !!!it’s a kind of book that you want to read from the beginning to the end, the story seems to be easy, but the more you read, the more you find a deep scenario, with unanswered questions about the main character, about the world. just after reading it, i’bought book 2&3. and again the book 2 starts with new mysteries, didn’t had time to finish it yet, but i’m very happy to have discover a new promising heroic Saga.Get the free book ( english or french) and add your comment.
