  1. The Forgetful Traveler

    Most Requested Story
I originally checked this out from the library, but my 2yo son loves it so much (asked for it everyday for a month, and still asks for it every week) that I decided to buy it for him. It has several of Aesop’s “greatest hits,” but they are couched within a story about the life of Aesop. The biographical aspects of the book provide a historical context that promotes deeper understanding of the fables themselves, and they create a compassionate and empathic framework for considering the personal impact of slavery that is easily accessible for young and very young readers without being preachy or overbearing. The writing is superb, beautiful, and appropriate for a wide age-range of readers. However, the quality of the text is matched (or surpassed?) by the illustrations, which are beautiful, artistic, and almost able to stand on their own. Frankly, I’d like to have them painted on the walls of my son’s room.

Gift for grandchild. Both mom and dad read it and re read it. Great messages for kids to learn. Everybody could get something from this book

    Well written and beautiful illustrations
The story gave a brief background on Aesop and a few of the most well known fables. My 11 & 13 yr old boys were captivated. Awesome introduction and really breathtaking illustrations. I followed this book up with another non illustrated book of fables but this one definitely helped set the scene. Highly recommend.

    Beautiful illustrations for each fable
It was a gift for a nine-year-old boy.

    Excellent
Truly an exciting telling of our old favorites, plus the story of Aesop. The fables are short and sweet and to the point. Bookended with the life story of Aesop. The kids 7yo and 4yo love this book and have been talking about the stories long after.
