    Well Written
It’s hard to find a book that holds my attention. Easy going plot without too much stress. Nice departure for subject. Well woven storyline. Not as artisticly written as something like the Secret Life of Bees but in the same sort of world. I really enjoyed it.

A moonshine legend in the making
North Carolina, 1960s, sixteen year old Jessie Sasser is determined to escape her family’s past. Generations of the Sasser family have made moonshine in the Brushy Mountains of Wilkes County. Her mother died in an accident more than a decade ago that she witnessed. Her father has refused to talk about it. Jessie wants the truth and comforts herself with food. Full of resentment, Jessie’s wants to destroy it all, but her efforts escalate old rivalries causing chaos. As she tries to fix things, secrets are revealed and things are forever changed.Having lived in the mountains of NC, I enjoyed reading this story. It is a sad story of circumstance, but a beautiful one. 4/5⭐s

    Moonshiners Daughter
Fascinating and well developed characters. I would read books by this author again. Who knew the reader would be rooting for a moonshiner!

    The ending is a surprise.
The ending was a surprise although after thinking about the story it is the only logical outcome.

    Interesting
This book was interesting but too much emphasis on an eating disorder. Somewhat difficult to hold attention on contents due to nonessential details.

I didn’t want it to end
Great story of struggles over unanswered questions. The violence of moonshine dealers in the mountains. A loving and caring nurse trying to help a young woman with an eating disorder. Families are torn apart due to alcohol. Great read!

Well done. Once again Donna Everhart has written a book that is gripping right to the end. Using story and research, she takes us back to a moment in time and gives us in depth insight into a slice of history exposing the ins and outs of making and running moonshine.

Totally involved with all the characters especially Jessie as she went thru her struggles with friends, family business, school and her self esteem. Great story line, however I found there was a lot of repetition of situations repeated over and over in the last 3/4 or so of the story. Picked up again at the end which redeemed the story to its beginning of good story and character.
