    Great 2 grader read
My son has asked for different nonfiction books and loves this series. After reading thia one he has told us many facts about Nelson Mandela and it’s great to hear about all he learned. It took him just a couple bedtimes to read the whole thing.

Engaging the older and younger reader together
I love the way the book is written to engage the thoughts of the reader – older and younger. It makes you stop along the way and provokes reflections for the reader. I bought the book for my new grandson, but I read the book with an 11-year old and we both loved the questions at the end of the book.

    Wonderful biographies!
This series of bios are perfect for second to fourth grade. They are informative, illustrated, and not too long. One of my students in 3rd grade gave a speech as if she were Malala. The MLK bio is good, too. Teach peace.

Another great book in this series but has a degree of difficulty to it
This book is about Nelson Mandela, an activist and eventually the president of South Africa. It is written in a similar style to the other books in this series. It starts off with an introduction chapter that tells a little about Nelson overall, then delves into his childhood and upbringing. After that it gets into the meat of Mandela’s history which was primarily his political action and fight for equal rights. A good chunk of the material is pretty heavy and difficult, so it might necessitate a parent to assist or to skew towards the higher ages with better reading and understanding. It very briefly delves into Nelson’s marriages, divorces, and a family death from AIDs. Towards the end it has a 10 question multiple choice quiz, with answers upside down on the last page. It also has a summation and a Glossary for important terms. I’d say the illustrations are good and follow the same pattern as in the rest of this series, but they are not the focal point. There is a lot of content here and as mentioned I think it skews towards an older child reader. Overall a good book.

    英語初級レベルなので、このシリーズを読んでいる。気のせいかもしれないが、少しずつ読解力が上がってきているかも。
