Daughter loved it.
My daughter loved this book so much she asked me to read it. It’s not my thing but I can see why she liked it and the fact that she liked it, is enough for me to love it as she’s not much of a reader (thus my review). The first half of the book is less exciting but sets up the last half very well and I think kids can relate to a variety of the feelings the main character has, regardless of their own experiences. Feelings of disappointment, sadness, loss, etc. The author portrays those feelings very clearly and understandably, allowing the child to become closer to the main character and step into his shoes, which in my opinion, is one of the things that makes reading so wonderful.The last half of the book is filled with adventure, which picks up the pace and interest for the reader, and the ending is really very lovely.

That book was one of my favorites because I love to hunt!!!!! I also love dogs and wild life. I really hope that I can read another book by Cynthia DeFelice. If you are interested in pheasant hunting this is a great book! Erick`s parents had to go to help the army. It was bad for Erick because he just got his hunting lesions and was going hunting for his first time. But his parents sent him to his grandparents house which he didn’t know. A few days after he got there he found an animal with quills on its face!! He called the doctor. After that happened the doc. Left saying that he would keep the dog if Stocks grandfather disagreed. When Erick talked to his grandfather, he said no. Then a day later the doc. Called and said he found the owner of the animal. Then Erick decided to run away with the animal. Things didn’t turn out to go well.

Good writing and good story
The book is an adventure and family story. I enjoyed all of it. It flowed beautifully. Learning about North Dakota was interesting.

Great book for all.
I was reading this book with my son. He chose it for a 6th grade language art assignment. It had a great story line and lots of adventure. It left you wondering what would come next. Truly enjoyed the story but my heart wishes it had ended differently.
